Upgrade for the Monkey 125 Camshaft Chain Tensioner System
I originally purchased the Kitaco camshaft chain tensioner push rod head to go with my Special Parts Takegawa reinforced camshaft chain tensioner arm but after reading that it is recommended by Special Parts Takegawa to use their part as other brands heads cause a large loads on the camshaft chain and could cause engine trouble. I decided to order the correct part and have it fitted next time I open up that side of the engine. As you can see from the photo attached the head on the left is the OEM Honda one with damage and the other is from Special Parts Takegawa and looks to be identical but hopefully made of a stronger material. I give the product quality 5 out of 5.
About quality and texture: I am happy with the quality of the cam chain tensioner push rod head from SP Takegawa, made from a hard rubber with a similar feel if not the same as the Honda part and the dimensions are the same as the Honda part.About the feeling of use: SP Takegawa recommend using their cam chain tensioner push rod head over the ones other brands make from a harder material. I decided to follow their advice but will take a look at the part after a few thousand kms to see how it is wearing.Products to buy together: The SP Takegawa super cam chain tensioner would also be desirable to purchase along side the cam chain tensioner push rod head to complete the upgrade to your cam chain tensioner system as recommended by SP Takegawa.Difficulty of installation: The process to install takes about 10 minuted, removal of the tensioner push rod sealing bolt will allow the tensioner spring and tensioner push rod to fall from the engine. Swap out the tensioner push rod head and reinstall the removed parts followed by adding 4cc of oil to the tensioner rod oiler port. Not difficult to do.Cost performance and comparison with other products: Good costing as you are getting a recommended performance parts from the SP Takegawa at only a small price increase over the Honda part and cheaper then the Kitaco part.About shipping and packaging: Sea frieght was my perferred method of shipping due to the lower cost but currently unavailable due to Japan Post. Webike kept me updated on the status of my order up to when it shipped. The parcel arrived within the expected date range and was well packaged with no chance of the part being damaged.Any concerns, cautions, or advice when purchasing: The cam chain tensioner push rod head is a consumable part and should be inspected periodically and replaced when required to keep your engine timing from skipping a beat.View Detail
Right near the Oil drain bolt is a Bolt that has a Camshaft Chain Tensioner in it. Open this and the tip of the TensionerROD can be replaced!
Just be careful! Even if you remove the Oil, the moment you remove the Bolt, the Oil will pop out and the Spring inside will pop out. Recommendation to pull out the Bolt while holding it down slowly!
The TensionerROD is just hooked to the end of a rod of the genus Gold, so just replace it and you're done! It's easy (laughs)View Detail
About quality and texture, I can confirm that the quality is great and that a mixture of materials are used from aluminum alloy for the arm, to hard rubber for the wheel and stainless steel for the spacer and bolt. About the feeling of use, The original cam chain tensioner arm is thin and applies unnecessary pressure to the tensioner push rod head. The manufacture of the Takegawa cam chain tensioner arm has resolved all the flaws of the original Honda design as you can see in my photo. Products to buy together, More parts to support a longer life span engine would be ideal to add to your cart like the crankshaft bearing support also from Takegawa. Difficulty of installation, I can say the fitment of the cam chain tensioner arm for my installation was average due to engine cover and rotor removal required for access. Cost performance and comparison with other products, The pricing of the product is great. You receive a product made from quality materials that does away with the original part that can fail causing major problems. Priced similar to other reinforced cam chain tensioners but much higher then the original one. About shipping and packaging, My order was shipped within 48 hours of me placing the order and I received a few emails advising me of the status up until the order was dispatched. I find the link supplied to track my order very useful and the order arrived within the estimated date range. Any concerns, cautions, or advice when purchasing, I have no concerns or cautions when purchasing from Webike. I cannot recommend Webike enough for the majority of your biking needs. About the feeling of use, The original cam chain tensioner did not last very long before it showed signs of wear when used with a powerful 4 valve head engine setup but I am very confident that the Takegawa cam chain tensioner will not suffer the same problem due to it's design features and the materials used in the constuction. Products to buy together, More parts to support a powerful 4 valve head engine setup would be ideal to add to your cart like the crankshaft bearing support also from Takegawa. Difficulty of installation, I can say the fitment of the cam chain tensioner for my installation was average due to engine cover and rotor removal required for access. About quality and texture: I am happy with the quality of super cam chain tensioner from SP Takegawa, the arm is machined from an aluminium alloy called duralumin making this part now strong but still light weightAbout the feeling of use: When removing the Honda cam chain tensioner you can see why this part is so frequently upgraded by Grom owners. The design of the SP Takegawa cam chain tensioner with it's larger contact patch and replaceable wheel is superior in every way.Products to buy together: The cam chain tensioner push rod head would also be desirable to purchase along side the cam chain tensioner. SP Takegawa sell their own version which they recommend over the harder material one that Kitaco, it is more like the Honda one.Difficulty of installation: The process to install takes about one and a half hours. Removal of the left crankcase cover, flywheel and cam chain tensioner push rod is required. A little difficult to do.Cost performance and comparison with other products: Good costing as you are getting the best designed cam chain tensioner available for the Grom at the same pricing when compared to the Kitaco cam chain tensioner which in my opinion is just not as good in it's design.About shipping and packaging: Sea frieght was my perferred method of shipping due to the lower cost but currently unavailable due to Japan Post. Really nice stainless steel exhaust system from Special Parts Takegawa at a great price here on Webike. If you are looking to get rid of the quite Honda OEM exhaust system but still wish to retain the factory look of your Honda Monkey then this is the exhaust system for you. This exhaust gives the little 50cc engine a nice note that you can now hear. Fit and finish of the exhaust is very nice and I do like the fact that if required in the future repacking of the muffler is made simple by the the use of rivets in the end cap. I was in the market for a new air filter for the Monkey and decided to give this one from Special Parts Takegawa a try. I have not purchased a part from Special Parts Takegawa that I did not like and this part is no different, it gives that nice intake noise and just looks trick sticking out the side of the frame like that. I will say that I would like to add the water resistant cover that they also sell to suit their pod style air filter. Comes with a breather attachment so you do not need to run an additional breather filter which will save you a few dollars.View Detail

When I picked up this Monkey the Honda OEM rear shock had no life left in them and I did not even waste anytime looking at other brands just went with these rear shocks from Special Parts Takegawa as they are my go to brand for the Monkey and have not disapponited this time either. Simple installation that anyone can do with the basic tools in your garage and I would suggest also remembering to add a little grease to the mounting posts to keep that area rust free. Nice OEM looking rear shocks with a spring rating that is more suitable for an average sized person. View Detail

I really love this part from Special Parts Takegawa, it just makes the Monkey look a million dollars and gives the engine overall just a better feeling. This special clutch kit also now gives you the ability to have a real oil filter and if you are going to run an oil cooler also the ability to have it start cooling when required by adding a thermostat. Such great thought has gone into designing this part. Installation skill required is medium and you will be needing some special tools which Webike has on offer. Expensive but well worth it. After some researching into all the different kits available for the Honda Monkey here on Webike I decided to go with this particular kit from Special Parts Takegawa mainly because it tucked nicely out of the way under the luggage rack with the up style exhaust and had the correct breather fitting to work with the clutch cover I have fitted to the engine. Do yourself a favour and also buy some hose a cutter from Webike too so you can have a perfect finish once the installation is complete. An expensive kit but it comes with everything you need and you don not have to spend a dollar more.View Detail
